The Process
Frequently Asked Questions
I understand that beginning therapy can bring up many questions. Here, I’ve addressed some of the most common questions about how therapy works, what to expect, and how we can work together to support your journey.
How do I begin the process?
Starting with a complimentary consultation.
It is often helpful to speak initially. I offer a complimentary phone consultation where we can discuss any issues, concerns, and goals that you are hoping to address in therapy. This consultation will also allow you to ask any questions you may have and gain an understanding of how I work with clients, as well as discuss a plan for your therapy.
How long are the sessions?
Flexible session lengths to meet your needs.
Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes, and couple and family therapy sessions are often 80 minutes. Extended sessions are accommodated upon request.
How are the sessions conducted?
Secure and accessible from anywhere.
Therapy sessions are conducted through a secure video platform or via telephone. The benefits of virtual therapy are numerous. In addition to meeting in the comfort of your own space, it also allows clients to meet at times of the day that commuting, traffic, parking, and childcare would greatly impede.
How often will we meet?
Regular sessions tailored to your progress.
Regular therapy sessions are important to make progress in therapy. Most of my clients find weekly sessions to be most effective in the early stages of therapy. Sessions will gradually become less frequent as progress towards goals is achieved.
How long will I be in therapy for?
Your journey, your timeline.
The length of time in therapy is highly variable and depends on each person’s needs and goals. The first few sessions are important in helping to develop trust, rapport and comfort in therapy. With continuity and momentum, most clients begin to see progress after a few sessions, and gain more benefits over time.

What is the session format?
Talk Therapy, Art Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Therapeutic Writing options are provided.
Most therapy sessions are talk therapy based, but can include art therapy, somatic therapy, and/or therapeutic writing exercises to enhance the therapeutic process. Sessions typically begin with a check in, and focus on clients most pressing needs, while keeping in mind their overall goals and plan for therapy.
What is Art Therapy?
For those looking to incorporate a creative and expressive approach to healing.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the process of art making as a means of communication in the therapy process. It is a gentle, but effective way of allowing clients to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions about particular issues, without solely relying on the spoken word. The art becomes a tool for communication, self-discovery, personal development, healing and growth.
Do I need to be artistic to benefit from Art Therapy?
No artistic experience required.
Artistic skills or experience are not necessary to benefit from Art Therapy. The focus rather is on self-expression, not the artistic quality of the art.
